My Childhood

My Childhood

I grew up with parents who loved Jesus and loved me. For as long as I can remember, my parents loved those God placed around them and invited others into our family. My parents didn't just attend church; they exemplified vibrant, personal relationships with their Creator. When I was in middle school,  I remember coming home from a youth group retreat and planning out my schedule to get up earlier in order to spend time in Scripture and prayer. In late high school, I had a pastor's wife who really poured into me as a mentor. She challenged me to grow in leadership in ways that I never thought I was capable and instilled faith that as I followed the Spirit's direction, He would work.

My Calling

My Calling

I have always felt a tug toward full time ministry, and I have always had a call to teach. I remember being little and lining up my dolls and stuffed animals to "teach" them. I also remember a year at kids' camp, probably going into sixth grade, when the speaker invited us to stand if we felt called to be a pastor or missionary. I stood up and have never been able to shake that call, even after nine years of teaching in a renowned school district in the suburbs. Each time I hear a missionary speak, see a video clip about missions, or pray for missionaries, my heart beats a little faster as I ask God how He is calling me to participate in His Story.
